Paani is a 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated toward alleviating the water crisis in Pakistan, where it is projected that by 2025 the country will reach the United Nation’s threshold for absolute water scarcity.
After this threshold is reached, Pakistan will be defined as having little to no access to clean water. As children of Pakistani immigrants, we have felt a sense of responsibility to give back to the country that raised and shaped our parents.
Our first projects consisted of building wells in conjunction with nonprofits such as the Hassan Foundation, but our work has taken us to teaching; a goal of decreasing water contamination by changing a mentality of a country through its children. Our goal is to ensure that those who are most affected by the water crisis are informed and that those that are perpetuating this cycle of water contamination are educated on better options.
We have three options to get teachers involved.
- Drawing books that teach students basic sanitation practices. These are targeted towards younger students.
- Community service activities to assign students who are interested in being involved.
